ADVANTAGES OF TECHNOLOGY ON CHRISTIANITY

Technology has not always had adverse effects on the Christian church. In many cases the Christian has found a way of making technology work in his favor.

The Internet: Christianity has made use of technology to advance its cause. About 3% of the sites on the Internet are Christian sites. The Internet has made the world reachable to the Christians, there are now Christian Internet Service Providers like the World Christian Online Inc that caters to the Internet needs of Christian customers. Christian ISPs provide access only to informative, educative, and religious sites and block access to hate and pornographic sites. The Internet has sites for almost every Christian denomination. There are Catholic sites for Catholics, Methodist sites for Methodists, etc. These sites provide sermons for those that are unable to go to church on Sunday. Christians are using the Internet as a means of spreading the gospel of Christ to the world.

Printing Press: The printing press is the greatest tool that is used by the Christians to reach her members. In the early days of the printing press, more than 98% of the books that were printed pertained to one form of religion or the other but mostly Christianity. The church is still using the printing press for its publications. Recent developments in the technology of the printing press, have made printing faster, cheaper and less cumbersome. The church has taken advantage of this by printing millions of religious and tracts daily to help in preaching the gospel of Christ. The Bible is now available to any and everybody free of charge.

Others: Technology in transportation has placed unreachable lands at the fingertips of the missionary. Missionaries are now reaching the formerly unreachable parts of the Amazon by using the Hovercraft, a boat that operates on both land and water. Other devices like the Global Positioning System satellite to confirm their locations and in some cases Helicopters are used to drop supplies to missions situated deep in the Amazon. Microphones and speakers are now used in most churches of the world today. Church services are broadcast live on radio and television. Technology has also provided better musical instruments for use in churches. There is now the new Digital Power Amplifier used for sermons and church choir that makes the voice of the speaker more natural and clearer than existing amplifiers. There is also the electronic Bible for the deaf.
